It seems unbelievable that Clayton is already one. This year has completely flown by! Thank goodness I like to take pictures, because I’m not sure I would have remembered this year if it was simply left to my memory. Although it was busy and fast, we enjoyed every last minute of it with Clayton. He could not be a better fit for our family and it was clear that he was the missing piece of our clan.
Deciding to have a fourth baby was not a decision we made lightly. I used to search the internet for hours trying to find stories of families with four children. I’d read about their life and try to make some conclusion on whether or not it would be a good choice or a bad choice for our own family. It seemed like an impossible decision for us for so long. Finally, I realized that most people don’t debate about a possible fourth baby like we had done for over a year. I figured it must be for a reason, and once we opened our heart to the idea of it, it seemed to make perfect sense.
I’m so thankful that we have Clayton. Yes, I’d love to have some more time to myself. Yes, my body is tired by the end of the day. Yes, I do feel like we don’t have enough time in the day to get to all of the tasks that need to get done. But we are making it work. We accept that we won’t get everything done, and that we won’t be the room parents in school, and that some of their special homework assignments might not be done to perfection, and that we have to say no to friends more than we’d like. Clayton isn’t the reason for any of these things, but he sure does make it easier to put things into perspective. We love him so much. We all love him differently, in our own special way.
Happy Birthday, Clayton! We can’t wait to celebrate your first year of life with you today! Here are some of my most favorite photos from this past year. It’s clear to see how involved all of our other kids are with him. They still choose to play with him every single day.
